Hoop House Program

It’s about more than just vegetables…

In collaboration with Ken Kuhne of Grow Y’Own, the Many Mothers’ Hoop House Program has provided education, community connections, and fresh produce to its recipients since 2010. Families participating in this program receive, personally delivered and installed by Ken:

  • a 4×8-foot, raised bed garden with soil
  • one summer cover
  • irrigation system
  • starter seeds and plants

Each year Hoop Houses are offered to several income-qualified families who also receive our volunteer support.

The hoop house is very amazing and giving! This summer we were able to get a lot out of it, considering that we had to move right in the very peak of the growing season! We grew varieties of lettuce, mustard greens, bok choi, arugula, spinach, kale, chard, as well as cilantro, thyme, and dill! The irrigation system saves a lot of time, and the covers really help with bugs. My two-year-old son is very into it; he likes the watering part, if we ever water by hand. I just love that I am able to garden while being a mom and that my son can watch me do it and we can all eat delicious and fresh food. We are very thankful!

We want to express our deep gratitude to Carole Garland, long time Many Mothers volunteer, for overseeing this program for many years!  Her wealth of knowledge and generosity of spirit has been such an incredible gift to our organization and to our Hoop House recipients.
